If they are a bit too tight, just try to get them on and then take them to the shower or wash stall. Hose them down with warm or hot water. Get them nice and wet. And then wear them until they are dry! This is the best way to break in boots especially if they are a bit too tight.

I'm trying to decide if some iron rangers fit me just right, or are too tight. Whenever I read about how tight the toe box should be, I read that you should be able to wiggle your toes, or play the piano. I'm hoping someone could elaborate a little more with what is and isn't too tight. In my case, the toes never hit the front, the little toe can rub against the side a bit, and the toe is low enough that I can't cross my big toe and second toe, one on top of the other. I can curl my toes into a toe-fist. Any other useful heuristics for telling whether a pair of boots is too tight in front?
